David Mathes
Something about me.
I am a Gestalt therapist and business consultant.
I
was born in London, England into a family with a history of business
and more recently, community service. My family has experienced success
and failure, and has suffered war and migration. I feel that in some
way these experiences have had a positive influence on me. Today many
of my family are involved in charity or pro-bono work in various
countries such as Spain, Africa and Australia. I moved to Australia
when I was 21 and started a family and now I spend my time between
Australia and China, while working in several other countries as well.
I believe that different cultures have much to offer each other if we
approach with an attitude of respect and the challenge of genuine
humility. Through my travels and experiences, I have also been
influenced by eastern ways of thinking and being.
I
have university degrees in Australia from Adelaide and RMIT in
economics, and organizational change and consulting. I am a qualified
Gestalt therapist and have also completed studies in marketing and, in
the Tavistock tradition, group dynamics. For my Systemic
Constellation/Configuration work, I trained with The International
Systemic Constellation Association in Germany and the IOCTI in Mexico
amongst other training. I am a founder of the Counseling and Therapy
Association in Victoria.
I am an
active contributor to the field of Systemic Constellations; submitting
articles for publication, regularly contributing to forums and
presenting papers and workshops at the World Congress of Psychotherapy
in Beijing, and at conferences in Mexico and Australia.
I
regularly hold workshops and events in Australia, New Zealand,
Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico and China. I have facilitated
dozens of workshops dealing with family and business cases for several
hundred people.
Before I became
interested in human dynamics and the struggle of awareness and change I
had a long business career and held senior positions in the areas of
finance, administration, marketing, manufacturing and logistics. As a
management consultant, I consult to government agencies, universities,
multinational corporations and the police. My focus is to support
management to take up their roles more effectively.
As
a therapist, I have worked with African refugees, Australian
aboriginals and those who have broken the law. I am particularly
connected to my work in the therapy area.
I
am one of few systemic organisational constellation practitioners. It
is a new and slowly emerging field. It is special work as it lets
organisations see a view of their whole system, and the tacit knowledge
that is often hidden within that system.
For
myself, my journey with this systemic work has allowed me to be more
open to 'what is' and have more comfort and respect towards the
environment that I live and work in.
